2026 Annual General Meeting and Sangha Offering Ceremony of the Malaysian Buddhist Sangha Association

The Malaysian Buddhist Sangha Association (MBSA) held its 2026 Annual General Meeting on 30 August at the ground floor hall of Than Hsiang Temple in Penang. Following the conclusion of the meeting, a meritorious Sangha Offering Ceremony was held. A total of 19 monks and venerables representing both the Theravada and Mahayana traditions gathered together, embodying the spirit of harmony and unity within the Sangha.

The Sangha Offering Ceremony commenced with an opening by the emcee, Sister Wai Cheng and proceeded in a solemn and orderly manner.

According to traditional folk beliefs, the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month is regarded as the day when the gates of the spirit realm are opened. In Buddhism, however, the seventh lunar month is known as the “Month of Filial Piety,” while the fifteenth day is also celebrated as “Buddha’s Joyful Day.”

On August 15, 2026 (the third day of the seventh lunar month), Than Hsiang Temple held a memorial service to commemorate the passing of Venerable Xiu Jing.

Venerable Xiu Jing was a revered elder in Than Hsiang Temple and the wider Buddhist community, as well as the ordaining master of Venerable Wei Wu, the founder of Than Hsiang Temple. His spirit of spreading the great love of Buddhism through the Four Immeasurables—loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity—remains deeply rooted in our hearts.

2026 Guanyin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day

To commemorate the great compassion of Guanyin Bodhisattva in relieving the sufferings of all beings, Than Hsiang Temple in Penang held a series of activities from August 1 to 2, 2026 (the 19th and 20th days of the sixth lunar month) to honor "Guanyin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day."

On the morning of August 1, devotees presented pure offerings to honor the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The Venerables led the congregation in the Grand Offering Before the Buddhas (Fo Qian Da Gong). Following the ritual, everyone followed the Venerables for the dedication of merits.

Abiding in Impermanence, Cultivating Joy in the Dharma

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the second Lay Sangha Gathering was successfully held at the residence of Bro. Chan Cheow Khoon and Sis.Yeap Siew Heng. Fellow practitioners gathered joyfully to learn, practice, and encourage one another through the Dharma.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the emcee, Sis. Lay Hong. Thereafter, Bro. Lim Kie Woon led the assembly in the recitation of Amitabha Buddha’s name. The resonant chanting filled the hall, planting wholesome seeds of purity and mindfulness in everyone’s hearts.

2026 Penang Than Hsiang Wan Ching Yuen Successfully Held Buddha Bathing Ceremony

As Wesak Day approaches, Penang Wan Ching Yuen held a Buddha Bathing Ceremony on May 28, 2026 to celebrate in advance. On that day, the senior citizens gathered early in the shrine hall, listening to Buddhist hymns while quietly awaiting the arrival of the Sangha members.

Wan Ching Yuen Staffs and volunteers had prepared the Buddha Bathing basin and elegant decorations one day before.

On the fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month, Buddha Day, Than Hsiang Temple solemnly held some Buddha Day Celebration Activities.

At around 7:30 a.m., the Than Hsiang temple canteen began preparing buns, dumplings,fried noodles, porridge, Putu Piring, etc to offer to the public. At the same time, volunteers also began to prepare packed rice boxes to be provided as lunch for the public.

2026 Buddha Bathing Ceremony for Staffs and Volunteers

On May 26, 2026, the tenth day of the fourth lunar month, Than Hsiang Temple held the Buddha Bathing Ceremony for staffs and volunteers at the Great Compassion Hall.

Throughout the year,every staff members and volunteers had dedicated themselves to serving the temple with care and effort. Aside from cultivating good merits, they also listened to the Dharma. Since everyone is busy on Buddha's Day itself,the Buddha Bathing Ceremony was held earlier,giving staff and volunteers the chance to chant sutras, listen to Dharma talks,bathe the Buddha,and receive Sangha blessings.
