Eight Precepts Cultivation by Students of Sekolah Menengah Perempuan Perak, Ipoh

A group of 145 students of the Sekolah Menengah Perempuan Perak, Ipoh came by bus to Than Hsiang Temple for a day of Eight Precepts Cultivation. They arrived by bus in the evening and joined the evening service chanting at the Hall of Great Compassion (Da Bei Dian).

Cleansing Ceremony (Sa Jing) at Than Hsiang's Vihara

As early as 2.00pm, Than Hsiang Temple's devotees had gathered at the Prayer Room of the Vihara for Than Hsiang male residents for the Cleansing Ceremony (Sar Jing). At 2.30pm, the Cleansing Ceremony began with prayers conducted by Venerable Tian Wen, Venerable Zhen Chan, Venerable Zhen Xin, and Venerable Zhen Yuan, lead by Venerable Wei Wu.

M.B.S.A. Maha Sanghikadana

There was a torrential downpour on the early morning of 18th June 2006 at Than Hsiang Temple where the Malaysian Buddhist Sangha Association (M.B.S.A.) Maha Sanghikadana was to be held. Even then, Than Hsiang's staff and volunteers were at work putting the finishing touches to the preparations for the main event. A number of devotees were seen doing pindapatta (offering of rice to the alms bowl) early in the morning. They were able to do so thanks to Sis. Tan Kim Nai, who was there especially early to set up everything for the pindapatta.

Ashes interred at San Sheng Dian

A tour in China for a group of Malaysians turned tragic when the bus they were travelling in plunged down a ravine. This happened in the north-eastern Shanxi province of China on 2 nd June 2006. Four people died and several others suffered serious injuries. Three of the deceased had their bodies cremated in China and their ashes brought back to Penang.

Bathing the Buddha Ceremony and Wesak

The morning of 3 May 2006 saw the children and teachers of Taska Than Hsiang in Sungai Ara, waiting in quiet anticipation for the Bathing the Buddha Ceremony to start. At 9.15am the Ceremony began with Venerable Wei Wu leading the bhikshus and bhikshunis in chanting the Heart Sutra and the Bathing Buddha Gatha. While the Bathing Buddha Gatha was being chanted, Venerable Wei Wu poured three ladles of fragrant water over the Buddha statue and the children, parents and teachers followed suit in this solemn ceremony.
