Bathing the Buddha Ceremony and Wesak

The morning of 3 May 2006 saw the children and teachers of Taska Than Hsiang in Sungai Ara, waiting in quiet anticipation for the Bathing the Buddha Ceremony to start. At 9.15am the Ceremony began with Venerable Wei Wu leading the bhikshus and bhikshunis in chanting the Heart Sutra and the Bathing Buddha Gatha. While the Bathing Buddha Gatha was being chanted, Venerable Wei Wu poured three ladles of fragrant water over the Buddha statue and the children, parents and teachers followed suit in this solemn ceremony.

Ching Ming Dharma Assembly

About 700 devotees turned up for Than Hsiang Temple's Ching Ming Dharma Assembly held on 2 nd April 2006 at the Multi Purpose Hall. The Dharma Assembly started at 1.00pm with a Session of Pure Land Chanting. Altogether Three Sessions of Pure Land Chanting was held for the Dharma Assembly.

Lion Dance in Wan Ching Yuen Centre

In the morning of 4 February 2006, Wan Ching Yuen Centre resonated with the loud drumbeats and clashing of cymbals that heralded the beginnings of a lion dance. A pair of lions danced their way to the statue of Amitabha Buddha and paid their respects before dancing in front of the residents of Wan Ching Yuen.

Ordination Ceremony

Sunday, 5 February 2006 marked an important date in the calendar of Than Hsiang Temple. This was the day when two laymen took the big step of renunciation from worldly life to follow the spiritual path towards Buddhahood. The two men were Ooi Han Chun and Teoh Chew Hooi. Bro. Ooi graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a B.A. Hons. in Humanities and had been working in Than Hsiang since then. Bro. Teoh was born in Sungai Petani but went to a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur and graduated from a Canadian university. He is currently taking the B.A.
