Venerable Wei Wu awarded Hon. Ph.D. (Buddhist Studies) by MBU

Bangkok (19 May, 2013) -- The Mahamakut Buddhist University (MBU) awarded Venerable Wei Wu, the founder and council chairman of IBC, the Honourary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Buddhist Studies.

The Citation says, “The Mahamakut Buddhist University Council has reached a unanimous resolution that a Doctorate Degree in Buddhist Studies Honoris Causa be conferred upon Most Venerable Wei Wu, with 64 years of age and 21 years in monkhood, who is a senior monk attached to the Chinese Mahayana Sect of Chan Linji, and endowed with strict discipline and upright conducts, and who takes high responsibilities in the field of the ecclesiastical administration and education, propagation of Buddhist, and social works, both at home and abroad.”

“... Through his great contributions in the fields of ecclesiastical administration, education and public service as mentioned above, Most Venerable Wei Wu is regarded as a prominent Buddhist monk who has produced innumerable missions beneficiary to Buddhism, his own country and the world as a whole, to the extent that Most Venerable deserves the praise and salutation. The MBU Council is pleased and proud to confer upon Most Venerable the degree of Doctor in Buddhist Studies, honoris causa. Awarded on the 19th of May, 2013 (the Buddhist Era 2556).”

Prof. Y. Karunadasa, a visiting professor at IBC, also receives a Honourary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Buddhist Studies.
