(From the e-desk of Ven. Wei Wu May 1, 2003.)

I am pleased that we are launching the Than Hsiang e-magazine. I would like to commend on the hard work put in by Sister Ong Yoon Khing, Brother Ooi Han Chun and Brother Chu Maw Ping with the assistance from Dr. Fa Qing, Brother Neoh Chee Jin, Brother Lim Peng Theam, Brother Ooi Chooi Seng, other staff members and kalyana mitras (volunteers) of Than Hsiang Temple.

We live in the e-era and the rate of development in the electronic media is simply amazing. The electronic media, especially the Internet, plays a very important role in the daily management of our society today. This modern technology has enhanced global communication.

In the religious circle, we can access the Internet to obtain vast information about news, teachings and development of activities from various religious organizations . Unfortunately, the Internet also brings in a lot of junk and harmful materials. Youths everywhere in the world are attracted to these negative materials and are easily influenced. We need to counter these negative elements by encouraging religious, commercial, welfare, and educational institutions to contribute educational materials to benefit Internet surfers of different ages.

The initiation of our e-magazine entails three main objectives:
1. To spread the noble teachings of the Buddha and other great religious teachers together with other Buddhist and religious organizations in different parts of the world.
2. To share Than Hsiang activities with our readers througout the world in the fastest possible way.
3. To get prompt feedbacks from our readers so that we can improve on our services.

We plan to provide you with informative articles and updates on our on-going activities in the near future. We sincerely hope that you will help us to encourage your friends and relatives to subscribe to our e-magazine so that we can reach out to a wider circle of devotees and well-wishers. We welcome all feedbacks and we will do our best to respond to them promptly.

May you continue to plant wholesome causes and may you be well and happy!

Warmest regards,

Ven. Wei Wu
