Note on Lubuntu 14.04

If you have installed Lubuntu, then DO NOT install Chromium-browser and libreoffice from Ubuntu software repositories, but download the original packages from their websites.

Things to do after installing Ubuntu 14.04

1. Change Unity to traditional menu

How to disable error-reporting system in Ubuntu 14.04

1) At the Terminal, run the command

sudo gedit /etc/default/apport

2) Change “enabled=1″ to “enabled=0″

3) Save and Exit

Replace Unity with Gnome-session-flashback in Ubuntu 14.04LTS

Warning: Following my instruction will destroy your Unity desktop.

How to convert audio files to mp3 in Ubuntu 12.04

Just install Sound converter (version 1.5).
In order to support mp3, one also needs to install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

There is no sound after rebooting Ubuntu

To fix the problem, the first step is always to re-install "linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils":

Update Oct.1, 2014: We have installed Linux Mate 17 for old computers to replace Ubuntu 10.04.

Note: Lubuntu 14.04 is also good, but we prefer the old Gnome 2.

0. Stick to LTS.
Do not upgrade your system to 13.04, which is very slow.
