Ubuntu 7.10 just released today. It took me two hours to download the image file. Installation is slow. It took me one hour and 15 minutes (automatically install on one disk). Just don't understand, why it is so slow to install. I think PClinuxOS is still better than Ubuntu in terms of installation. The fonts in firefox is far better than PCLinuxOS 2007. It also comes with Openoffice 2.3, Firefox 2.0.0.6. There are some new items in the Administration menu, but for me there nothing improved. Maybe I need more time to explore. For those with computer ram 256BM, Xubuntu 7.10 is the best choice. Xubuntu comes without openoffice, one needs to install by yourself. For DVD and VCD play, just install VLC player. With VLC player, Linux cam be a real multimedia OS. Overall, Ubuntu 7.10 is better than PCLinuxOS2007. LinuxMint 4: A Derivative distro from Ubuntu 7.10Linux Mint 4 was released on the Nov. 15, 2007. It was based on Ubuntu 7.10, but its installation runs faster than Ubuntu. It comes with some great tools. It works great in computers with ram 256MB. Another great tool for Ubunut and Linuxmint is REMASTERSYS: If you are troubled by Windows virus, LinuxMint 4 is a great OS to replace Windows Xp and Vista.
