Than Hsiang Fund and its subsidiary, Mitra welfare center will be celebrating their 17th anniversary at 10am on Sunday 23rd of December at the Than Hsiang multipurpose hall.

The objective of the celebration is to raise fund for Mitra welfare center's activities.

Than Hsiang Fund has been established for 17th year. Under the able leadership and guidance of its compassionate founder and abbot of Than Hsiang Temple, Ven Wei Wu, combined with the unstinting public support, we have progressively expanded our field of services in education and social welfare; inline with our social service conviction:¡°the young to learn, the healthy to serve, the aged to be cared for and the departed to find spiritual destination.¡±. In the realm of education, we have kindergarten, Sunday dharma class up to the recently established International Buddhist college.

Todate, the seeds of Than Hsiang fund not only have been sown in Klang valley and the state of Negri Sembilan in the south, we have also ventured as far north as southern Thailand. WE have also began moving our Kindergarten centers into residential estates such as Sungai ara area in Penang, Sungai Petani, Seberang Perai selatan and Bukit mertajam. In commemoration of our 17th anniversary we cordially invite all friends, supporters and devotees to celebrate with us on this memorable occasion.

 

Mitra Welfare's Development Progress

Establised in 19th Feb 1990, the Mitra line(a counseling arm of Mitra welfare department) providing telephone counseling for those in need of emotional and spiritual support and assistance, Besides counseling through phones, seminars dialogue session, book study sharing, movie review sharing and workshops are some of the activities organized to help members to grow and learn.

Mitra line began in 1999, the pre-marital workshop focusing on building a healthy and blissful marital relationship. We also conduct short courses to train the volunteers and organizing seminars for oganisations in schools. The KL branch of Mitra line was set up on the 7th of June 1997 to serve the KL-Selangor region.

The welfare center annually provide welfare and social services to the old folk & infirmed homes and handicapped homes, dialysis patients and their next of kins in need. In Than Hsiang Wan Chin Yan, we have a group volunteers to trim the hairs of the old folks monthly.

The KL branch of welfare center was established in 1993 providing similar functions.

In 1999, the Mitra line and welfare were combined to better able to pool their resources in providing better services. In 2005, The unified center shifted to the new Sungai Ara building marking a new milestone in its evolution. In 2006, the concept of case management was implemented in order to provide a amore efficient service in encompassing the dual role of counseling and welfare works.

In short, Than Hsiang mitra-welfare center is founded on the aspiration and practice of loving kindness and compassion for all beings through providing services in 1. counseling, 2. welfare works and 3. social education .

    To educate the masses through various social activities such as:

    Premarital workshop, spouses relation workshop, parent support groups and seminars, and group sharing relating to personality and relationship enhancement dialogues.
